A government jet carrying Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Evangelos Venizelos back to Athens from Ankara where he had attended the inauguration ceremony of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan was forced to conduct an emergency landing in Thessaloniki on Friday due to a technical problem.

Foreign Minister Evangelos Venizelos is to represent Greece at the official inauguration ceremony for Turkeys new president, former Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the Greek Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Tuesday.
The ceremony to install Erdogan as Turkish president is to take place in Ankara on Thursday.

Turkey evacuates its consulate in Basra in southern Iraq over security concerns
