Police responded to a shooting Wednesday outside the National Security Agency campus at Fort Meade, where authorities surrounded a man after a black SUV ran into a barrier, The Wall Street Journal reported.

Fort Meade garrison spokeswoman Cheryl Phillips confirmed by phone that one person was injured in the shooting outside the base and was taken to a hospital.

Monday's shootout outside the headquarters of the US National Security Agency appears to be a 'local criminal matter' and not a terrorist attack, according to a senior US official, NBC News reported.

Guards shot one man dead and seriously wounded a second when the men tried to ram a vehicle into the entrance gate at the Fort Meade, Maryland, headquarters of the National Security Agency, on March 30, CNN reported.

Two men tried to ram a vehicle through the main gate to the United States National Security Agency headquarters building on Monday, the CNN reported.

NSA police shot one of the men dead and seriously injured the second. Their identities aren't available yet.
