According to a report in German newspaper Spiegel report Fraport, the company that bought out 14 Greek regional airports is seeking financial compensation amounting to 70 million euros by the Greek state due the condition the airport terminals were in.

Apparently the Greek Civil Aviation Authority had left the 14 regional airports in the darkness. Therefore, when the German-Greek consortium FRAPORT took over last April, they found a total of 12.000 burned out bulbs in the fourteen regional airports.

The intact World War II bomb, located near Terminal 2 at Frankfurt Airport, was successfully disposed of on Wednesday, DPA reported, referring to the local police.

Istanbul's Atatürk Airport saw the highest increase in passenger numbers in July out of all five major European airports, the European airport trade body announced on Sept. 13. 

Other airports in Turkey also showed significant increase in passenger numbers in July, including Istanbul's Sabiha Gökçen, the Antalya Airport and Ankara's Esenboğa, according to the report.

An unknown person sprayed a supposed ‘irritant gas’ at a check-in counter of Frankfurt International Airport. Six people have been injured, police confirmed. People affected by the substance are being treated for inhalation and eye injuries.

Air Berlin is in talks with three competitors about buying up its assets, the insolvent airline's boss said on Aug. 17, warning that not all jobs would be saved.

"Aside from Lufthansa, we are in contact with two other interested parties from the aviation industry," Air Berlin chief executive Thomas Winkelmann told the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung daily.

Combined passenger numbers at the Bulgarian coastal airports of Varna and Burgas rose 7.3% year-on-year in the January-July period, reaching 2.63 million, Germany's Fraport Group, which operates the airports, said on Thursday, according to See News. 

The number of arrivals at the 14 regional airports managed by the consortium led by Germany's Fraport has risen significantly so far this year.

Fraport has raised its forecast for passenger numbers at Turkey's Antalya airport this year after a rush of Russian tourists at the start of the summer vacation season, the airport operator's finance chief said.
