Britain's easyJet said on Sunday it was operating flights as normal to Rhodes but was closely monitoring the wildfires on the Greek island.

"We advise customers travelling to and from Rhodes to check the status of their flights on Flight Tracker," it said in a statement.

The strong wind in Sofia caused delays in flights at Sofia Airport and rerouting of planes, the airport's press center reports.

Istanbul Airport ranked fifth in the Official Aviation Guide's (OAG) world's busiest airports list for August with a total 3.8 million seats, climbing up from 14th place.

It also moved from the 9th spot to rank 5th in the busiest international airports list by seats.

Britain's airports are coming under fire for failing to prepare for this week's jubilee getaway and the busy summer season, as passengers face long delays and cancelled flights.    

"The U.K.'s airports are in crisis because thousands of jobs have been slashed," Sharon Graham, head of the country's biggest trade union Unite, said on June 1.    

"We want to be leaders in tourism. We are in the championships, we do not want one of the best scores, we want the best score.

In August, the low-cost airline EasyJet will serve 30 countries. There is a dropout of three countries compared to the same month in 2019 - Estonia, Finland, Norway and Slovenia will no longer be served, although all of them except Norway will "return" in September-November.

Ljubljana – Budget carrier EasyJet has decided to end its Ljubljana-Berlin service, the second route it has terminated out of the Slovenian capital after it shut its base in London Stansted, the aviation portal Ex-Yu Aviation reported.

The low-cost carrier Wizz Air announced that it launches two new routes from Sofia to Billund (Denmark) and London Gatwick (UK).

Flights to Denmark will start from 3 June and will be operated twice a week - on Wednesday and Sunday. Billund is famous because of the Lego Company (founded there in 1932)

London/Heathrow remained the EU's busiest passenger airport in 2018, with 80 million passengers handled, slightly up (+3%) compared with 2017. Paris/Charles de Gaulle (72 million, +4%), Amsterdam/Schiphol (71 million, +4%), Frankfurt/Main (69 million, +8%) and Madrid/Barajas (56 milion, +9%) completed the top 5 of the busiest airports in the EU.

Greek authorities say a British Airways jet carrying 158 people from Cyprus to London has made a safe unscheduled landing at Athens International Airport.

Airport officials said the Airbus 320 took off from the city of Larnaca in Cyprus and was in the air on Wednesday evening when the pilot requested permission to land in Athens.
