Gaza Strip evacuations

The Israeli military has issued so many evacuation orders in 10 months of war that many Gaza civilians no longer heed them, despairing of finding space or safety in the shrinking "humanitarian" zones.

Over the first three weeks of August, the Israeli army sent out 11 evacuation orders via flyers dropped from planes, text messages or social media.

More than 75,000 Palestinians have been displaced in southwest Gaza in the past few days, the head of the U.N. agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) said on Sunday.

"Over the decades, Palestinian civilians have been caught up in wars and conflicts, far too many times," Philippe Lazzarini, the UNRWA commissioner-general, said on X.

Israel has agreed to resume Gaza ceasefire talks next week at the request of international mediators as Palestinians on Aug. 9  tried to escape a new Israeli military operation in Gaza's main southern area.

Palestinians fled the two refugee camps in the central Gaza Strip on Monday after the Israeli army issued new evacuation orders, with The U.N. agency for Palestinian refugees saying that 86 percent of Gaza is currently under such orders.

At least 90 Palestinians were killed and 300 others injured in an Israeli attack targeting displaced persons' camps in the southern Gaza Strip on Saturday, according to the enclave's Health Ministry.

The United Nations protested on Tuesday over the latest mass evacuation orders issued by Israel in Gaza as Israeli strikes continue in Gaza City.

The U.N. humanitarian coordinator for Gaza said Tuesday that 1.9 million people — 80 percent of the territory's population — were now displaced, adding she was "deeply concerned" by reports of new evacuation orders for Khan Yunis.

Israel carried out fresh strikes in southern Gaza on Tuesday, forcing hundreds of Palestinians to flee after the army once again ordered the evacuation of certain densely populated areas.

Teenagers across the Gaza Strip should have been taking their final exams this month, a last hurdle before university and lifelong dreams, but the war in the Palestinian territory has crushed those hopes.

According to the education ministry in the Hamas-run Gaza Strip, 85 percent of educational facilities in the territory are out of service because of the war.

The International Committee of the Red Cross said at least 22 people were killed in shelling that damaged its Gaza office Friday, as the Israeli army intensified strikes in the besieged Palestinian territory.
