Bulgaria's Prison Guards Ready to Go On Strike

The trade union of the prison guards in Bulgaria is ready to announce a general strike of its members, its leader Ivan Petrov told the bTV national channel. 

“We are seeking solutions to the problems of those working in the prisons and are preparing a petition for changing the work shifts from 24-hour to 12-hour,” Petrov said. 

Port workers launch work stoppage ahead of two days of strikes over privatization


Stevedores across the country walked off the job until 11 a.m. on Monday in a protest against the planned privatization of Thessaloniki port.

A 24-hour strike has been called for Tuesday, when Parliament will debate the relevant legislation.

The port workers will also take part in Wednesday’s general strike.
