Microsoft and Dropbox Lay Off Thousands Due to AI – The Impact on the Workplace

After a strong third quarter, Microsoft is reportedly laying off between 1,000 and 1,500 employees in its Azure cloud and mixed reality divisions. Dropbox also announced 500 layoffs in April 2023, with CEO Drew Houston citing AI as a significant factor. “In an ideal world, we would move people from one group to another, and we did that wherever possible,” Houston explained.

Finance Ministry warns against AI-generated videos

The Treasury and Finance Ministry has announced that videos in which minister Mehmet Şimşek was impersonated using artificial intelligence to give investment advice have been removed from social media following numerous complaints.

In a statement on June 26, the ministry highlighted the growing threat of AI fraud, emphasizing it as "one of the most significant dangers of our time."

In major change, Google to use AI-generated answers in search results

Google on Tuesday said it would introduce AI-generated answers to online queries, in one of the biggest changes to its world leading search engine in 25 years.

"I'm excited to announce that we will begin launching this fully revamped experience, 'AI overviews,' to everyone in the U.S. this week," Google chief executive Sundar Pichai said at an event in California.
