Powerful Earthquake Jolts Northeastern India

An earthquake with a magnitude of 6,4 has struck an area in northeast India, posing a serious threat to thousands of people.

The powerful earthquake, which originated in Tezpur, Assam near the Himalayas had a depth of 34 kilometres when it hit Wednesday at 7.51am (local time). 

Two aftershocks were also reported within minutes of the initial quake, according to India Today. 

At Least 25 Dead as Bus Falls Into Canal in Southern India

At least 25 people, many of them schoolchildren, were killed when a speeding bus fell into a canal in southern India on Saturday, an official and media reports said, quoted by ABC News. 

The accident occurred in Mandya district as the driver lost control of the vehicle while going at a high speed, said G. Parameshwaran, the Karnataka state deputy chief minister.

India Tests "Anti-smog Cannon"

India has unveiled a new weapon to combat air pollution - an "anti-smog cannon" that authorities hope to clear the air over New Delhi, AFP informs.

But environmentalists believe that this is a temporary solution as it will not solve the real cause of the air problem.
