EU court scraps 1.5-bln euro fine against Google

An EU court has scrapped a 1.49-billion euro ($1.65 billion) fine imposed by Brussels against Google over abuse of dominance in online advertising.

"The General Court annuls the [European] Commission's decision in its entirety," the Luxembourg-based court said in a statement, adding that the "institution committed errors in its assessment."

Google's AI model faces European Union scrutiny

European Union regulators said on Thursday they're looking into one of Google's artificial intelligence models over concerns about its compliance with the bloc's strict data privacy rules.

Ireland's Data Protection Commission said it has opened an inquiry into Google's Pathways Language Model 2, also known as PaLM2.

Google faces its second major antitrust trial in less than a year on Monday, with the U.S. government accusing the tech giant of dominating online advertising and stifling competition.

The trial in a federal court in northern Virginia follows a separate case where a judge last month found Google's search business to be an illegal monopoly.
