The initiative has been taken to deal with the 70% increased demand for online vacation searches noted from June to September.

Greek authorities on Thursday issued a weather warning as heavy rain and storms were expected on Friday.

Bad weather was expected to hit western parts of the country during the day before spreading across Greece by late Friday.

Authorities have demolished 170 illegal buildings so far this year in the Peloponnese, Western Greece and the Ionian islands, according to figures seen by Kathimerini.
