Hasankeyf wants to become Türkiye’s 26th ‘calm city’
The historic district of Hasankeyf in the southeastern province of Batman aims to become Türkiye's 26th "calm city."
Located 37 kilometers from Batman city center, efforts are ongoing to include the district in the International Cittaslow Network under the leadership of the Hasankeyf Governor's Office.
Roman military structure unearthed in Hasankeyf
Archaeologists have uncovered the remains of a 1,600-year-old Roman military structure during excavations in southeastern Türkiye, shedding new light on the region's ancient history.
The discovery was made at Hasankeyf, one of humanity's oldest settlement sites, during an ongoing archaeological work led by Zekai Erdal, an art historian from Artuklu University in Mardin.

‘Cultural assets in risky areas should be moved’
The Parliamentary Earthquake Commission has advised that cultural structures that are in danger of collapsing due to liquefication on their grounds should be moved via a wheeled platform.
The commission, which was established after the devastating Feb. 6 earthquakes in the southern part of the country, submitted its 935-page report to Parliament Speaker Mustafa Şentop last week.
