Istanbul’s Beşiktaş mayor Murat Hazinedar and two municipal council members were dismissed from their duties on Jan. 4 by the Turkish Interior Ministry.

The main opposition Republican People's Party's (CHP) Beşiktaş district mayor Murat Hazinedar said on Oct. 14 that he has been referred to the party's disciplinary committee for insulting three party members.

Istanbul's Be?ikta? Municipality has change the name of a street in the district to "Bar??-A?iti," meaning "peace" in Turkish and Kurdish. The move comes as an expression of solidarity with the municipality in the violence-hit southeastern province of Hakkari.
