Early signs of a price decline in industry

The industrial imports price index recorded a decrease in February 2023 - for the first time since January 2021 - on an annual basis, while a decline was also recorded on a monthly basis.

This element is essentially an indication of price de-escalation, mainly in energy and to a lesser degree in some primary and secondary materials, such as basic metals and paper.

Jobless rate jumps to 11.4%

The unemployment rate jumped to 11.4% in February from 10.3% in January, data from Greece's independent Statistics Authority (ELSTAT) show.

Experts say the jump can be attributed to layoffs of many temporary workers employed during the winter tourist season.

The jobless rate is still lower than than recorded in February 2022 (13%).

Greece's jobless rate stood at 11.4% in February, up from a downwardly revised 10.3% in January, data from statistics service ELSTAT showed on Friday.

Seasonally adjusted data showed 526,742 people were officially unemployed, with those under the age of 24 the hardest hit.

Unemployment was more widely spread among women than men, with the rates at 15.8% and 7.8%, respectively.

Growth beats forecast in 2022

The Greek economy outperformed the European Union average for a second year in succession in 2022, securing a growth rate of 5.9%, Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT) data showed on Tuesday. According to Eurostat's provisional data, the growth rate in the eurozone was 3.5% and in the European Union 3.6%.
