The Ministry of Digital Transformation on Wednesday unveiled an artificial intelligence tool that will be used in the land registry's executive decision-making process.

A settlement for the Land Registry comes to resolve a years-old pending issue that has plagued thousands of property owners who are unable to transfer their property.

Starting in September, the “big eye” of the tax office will delve into the real estate of over 7 million taxpayers. The “Property Ownership and Management Register” is a new database that will be connected to the Land Registry.

The long delay in connecting the land registry with the tax office has created a distorted picture, as the tax office does not know who exactly owns each property or its actual square footage.

The Hellenic Cadaster is now entering the digital era after 15 years of efforts to this end, starting with the municipalities of Athens, Galatsi and Moschato. The Cadaster Office will close on Thursday and Friday to complete the changeover and reopen on July 3.

The Council of Ministers approved a draft Law on Amendments and Supplements to the Law on Cadastre and Land Registry. It provides for the provision of full digitization of the property register maintained by the Registration Agency, by creating electronic batches of real estate and electronic batch files with the registered acts and the documents attached to them.

As of Monday, the Hellenic Land Registry website www.ktimanet.gr is to start posting cadastral data for the Municipality of Athens. Authorities are calling on more than half a million citizens who have declared ownership of properties within the municipality to check the accuracy of the data recorded ahead of its finalization.

Cadastral data for the Municipality of Athens will start being posted online as of June 1 on the Hellenic Land Registry website.

Property owners with homes or plots of land in Kastoria, Florina, Drama, Xanthi and Halkidiki or on the islands of Samos, Icaria and Chios have until May 30 to declare their assets on the online land register.

The assets can either be registered at local or regional land registry offices or online at www.ktimatologio.gr

New land registry offices in the inner Athens suburb of Galatsi have boosted a slow-moving process to establish a Greek cadastre but still only a fraction of properties have been declared.
According to the latest official data, just 7 percent of all property rights have been declared so far - some 700,000 declarations - with 13 percent of all declarations submitted online.
