Five arrested over illegal antiquity digs
Police in the southern Peloponnese have arrested five people suspected of involvement in a criminal gang that carried out illegal excavations at archaeological sites.
The arrests of the men, who range in age from 37 to 56, followed a months-long investigation.
Police said the men used metal detectors and other specialized surveying equipment in their illicit digs.

Bird Buddy crowdfunds two new products
A Slovenian start-up that has found success with a peculiar bird feeder has raised almost three million euros in a second Kickstarter for two new products.
In a campaign that wrapped up on 15 June, Bird Buddy convinced more than 10,000 supporters to finance an AI-powered Smart Hummingbird Feeder and a Smart Bird Bath.

Due to Imports from Ukraine: 50% of Bulgarian Honey remains Unrealized
30% of beekeepers in Bulgaria are at a crossroads whether to stop working. The industry is collapsing, citing the unrealized output from last year as the main reason. Bulgarian producers have not been able to sell 50% of the produced honey, due to competing imports from Ukraine. Because of this, Bulgarian beekeepers have lost important markets abroad.
Ig prison inmates active in beekeeping
Ig – The Urban Beekeeper Association and the Slovenian Prison Administration started a project this spring at the open ward of the prison in Ig as part of which inmates are being taught all about beekeeping. The project dubbed Honey Cell is a part of the European project Food Systems in European Cities (FoodE).

Beekeepers against EU lowering bee protection standards
Ljubljana – The Slovenian Beekeeper’s Association has urged the government to reject any EU proposal to lower protection standards for honey bees or other pollinators. The beekeepers fear this could happen as part of the EU’s revision of guidelines on risk assessment of pesticides.
Smart bird feeder becomes most successful Slovenian project on Kickstarter
Ljubljana – Bird Buddy, a project of a smart bird feeder created by a predominately Slovenian team, has raised a total of EUR 4.19 million on Kickstarter, the global crowdfunding platform, thus becoming the most successful Slovenian project by far.
