Pope says he wants to visit Turkey for Council of Nicaea anniversary

Pope Francis has said he wanted to visit Turkey next year to celebrate the anniversary of the first council of the Christian Church.

"It's a trip that I desire to go on, with all my heart," the pontiff told a delegation of the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople in Istanbul, a Vatican statement said.

Notorious assassin changes surname to 'lion'

A recent court indictment has revealed that  Mehmet Ali Ağca, the killer of journalist Abdi İpekçi and the perpetrator of failed assassination attempt on Pope John Paul II changed his surname to "Aslan," meaning "lion" in English.

An Istanbul court used the new surname of Ağca during a trial in which he faced 15 years in prison for looting.

Turkey resentful of Germany and Vatican over Armenian issue

Almost a month has passed since April 24, the date that marked the 100th anniversary of the 1915 Armenian tragedy.

No one is talking about it in Turkey any more. Naturally, it is no longer on the world?s agenda. But I am sure that both in Yerevan and Ankara a general assessment is being made about this important turning point.
