Ten people lost their lives on Sunday as the result of the extreme conditions in Poland. The temperature remains many degrees under zero. In some areas it has reached as low as -20.

The people that fell victims of hypothermia since November 1st are 65 in total.

Outside the headquarters of Greece's governing political party is a moving snapshot of what a seven-year financial crisis can do to a country: A central Athens square where refugees rest, police chase petty criminals, and the homeless wait for meals handed out by charities.

Regional and municipal authorities in the Attica region on Wednesday were implementing measures to protect the capital's homeless and vulnerable populations after meteorologists warned of a cold snap.

Officers of the Greek Police's Dias motorcycle unit said on Tuesday they had arrested a 34-year-old Romanian national on people trafficking charges and for exposing minors to danger, including his own son, by forcing them to beg.

According to reports, a minor was seen coming out of a van driven by the suspect before begging at a traffic light in Voula, southern Athens. 

The police in Novi Sad on Wednesday brought in three minors on suspicion that they intentionally set a homeless man on fire.

The victim has since died of his injuries.

Athens Mayor Giorgos Kaminis is seen Tuesday during the inauguration of a free public laundry service at the Homeless Shelter of the City of Athens (KYADA), near the capital's Larissis Station. The facility, which includes five professional washing machines and five dryers, will be available to individuals with no access to basic services such as electricity or water.

Serdar Kiğılı, a Turkish restaurateur in the quiet London suburb of Sidcup, and his business partner Tacettin Genç, have suddenly turned into popular figures  on social media after announcing plans to offer Christmas dinner to elderly and homeless people in the neighborhood. 

In Turkey, one in three children suffers from extreme poverty. That is more than 7 million children in total. Out of 20 million children, 15 million cannot have a one-week vacation in a year. Almost half of them cannot eat meat, chicken or fish. 

A 47-year-old homeless man wielding a screwdriver broke into a car in New Ionia, Volos without taking anything from the vehicle, then turned himself in to the Magnisias police station at 03:00 Tuesday and told the on-duty police officers to arrest him.

Greece has the worst record among its European Union peers regarding the living conditions of households and their capacity to maintain their property and cover basic needs in running their homes.
