President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has denounced the U.N. Security Council after the United States vetoed a ceasefire resolution for Gaza, describing the international body as the "Israel protection council."

Erdoğan used a speech on human rights on Dec. 9 to accuse the West of "barbarism" for its stance on the Israel-Hamas war and what he alleged was its toleration of Islamophobia.

The captain of the ship "Galaxy Leader" and the first assistant captain of the ship, who are Bulgarians, remain in captivity of the Houthis for more than two weeks. Together with them, there are 23 other crew members, including sailors from Ukraine, the Philippines, Mexico and Romania.

A recent incident involving a US Navy vessel, the USS Carney, has escalated tensions in areas of Yemen under Houthi control. Reports from ABC News confirmed that the USS Carney intercepted and shot down multiple drones on Sunday that were approaching from Houthi-held territories.

The United Nations has welcomed the increase in aid deliveries into Gaza afforded by a temporary truce but warned it was not enough to even start addressing the Palestinian territory's massive needs.

U.N. children's agency UNICEF said the aid flow to the northern Gaza Strip - the largest since the Israel-Hamas war erupted on October 7 - was "the right start."

Threats also come from groups that support Iran in the midst of Israel's war against Hamas.
The deployment of HMS Diamond, a Type 45 destroyer, comes after Houthi rebels in Yemen hijacked an Israel-linked cargo ship in the Red Sea last week and the US military had to rescue another vessel on Sunday, Sky News reported.
