Egypt hands life sentence to man who hijacked airliner to Cyprus

An Egyptian court on Tuesday handed a life sentence to an Egyptian man who hijacked an airliner to Cyprus in 2016 using a fake explosive belt.

The charges included using intimidation and threats to seize a plane and abduct its passengers for a terrorist purpose, according to a judicial source.

Seif Eldin Mustafa has the right to appeal within 60 days.

2 divers found dead off Karpathos island

Authorities say two foreign nationals have been found dead in an underwater cave off the island of Karpathos, in southeast Greece.

The two men, aged 65 and 30, had dived to a depth of 45 meters (150 feet) inside the cave Saturday. A third diver who went inside the cave turned back due to a lack of air and broke surface, without finding his companions. He then alerted the authorities.
