GENEVA -- A UN official has said that the Unites States has a legal obligation to prosecute U.S. officials who ordered crimes, including torture, against detainees.
UN Expert Calls for Prosecution of CIA, US Officials Over Alleged Torture During Interrogations
Ben Emerson, UN special rapporteur on the promotion and protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms while countering terrorism has called for prosecution of those responsible for torturing terrorism suspects.
"It has taken four years since the report was finalised to reach this point," said Emmerson in a statement, released by the UN news centre.

BELGRADE - The police are working to find out who was responsible for creating flyers with hate speech against the Roma in Serbia, and the Republic of Serbia will not tolerate any form of discrimination, the Serbian Ministry of Interior (MUP) said in a statement on Monday.

BELGRADE - A total of 111 victims of human trafficking were identified in Serbia in the first ten months of the year, the data of the Centre for trafficking victims protection show.
The data were presented to mark the International Day for the Abolition of Slavery, December 2.

Eskişehir court acquits 173 people in Gezi case
A court in EskiÅehir has acquitted 173 people who were tried for attending last yearâs Gezi Park protests, on the grounds that they had used their right to free expression.
A total of 176 people, including two lawyers, were facing up to three years in prison on charges of resisting a public officer, insulting, damaging public property and violating the demonstration law.

'We crossed the line', US admits to UN anti-torture body
The United States said Nov. 12 it did not condone torture under any circumstances, but acknowledged to a UN anti-torture watchdog it had "crossed the line" following the September 11 attacks.
