Russian Ambassador to Turkey Andrey Karlov assassinated in Ankara

Russia's ambassador to Turkey, Andrey Karlov, was assassinated at an art exhibition in the Turkish capital of Ankara on Dec. 19, Russia and Turkey have confirmed.

Karlov was shot with a gun while making a speech at a photography exhibition in the Turkish capital, the Russian Embassy said, adding that it believed that it was a radical Islamist attack.

Total of 22,000 Turkish military members dismissed over FETÖ links

A total of 22,085 Turkish military personnel have been dismissed for their links to the Fethullahist Terrorist Organization (FETÖ), Defense Minister Fikri Işık said on Dec. 10. Of that number, 16,409 were military school students, Işık said during 2017 budget talks at parliament.  
      

Turkey tests mid-range air defense system

The Turkish Defense Minister Fikri Işık has reviewed a test for Turkey-made medium-altitude air defense missile Hisar-O which is expected to meet the needs of the Turkish Land Forces Command.         

"We have many systems developed by Roketsan and Havelsan corporations," Işık told the project's engineers after a test was conducted in the Central Anatolian province of Aksaray. 

Turkish gov't urges NATO countries to reject asylum requests of suspected Gülenist soldiers

Western countries should reject the asylum requests of suspected Fethullahist Terrorist Organization (FETÖ) members, Defense Minister Fikri Işık said at a Nov. 21 meeting with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, sources familiar with the meeting told the Hürriyet Daily News.
