A summer tax tornado as 29.2 billion euros due by year's end

Greece's 8 million individual taxpayers and companies will have to hand over some 14.8 billion euros in taxes between now and the end of the year, on the basis of their revenues, property and other assets. When indirect taxes are added, the total comes to some 29.2 billion euros, with the bulk of it due in the summer months.

Greece still unattractive for property sector investors

Greece remains among the least attractive destinations for foreign property buyers looking to make an investment. A list drafted by the Global Property Guide - an international provider of information for property investors - has placed this country 32nd among 36 states, as its prospects for an investor are seen as quite unattractive.

Budget relies on taxes from 0.4 pct of firms

Just 914 enterprises, or 0.4 percent of the total of at least 220,000 companies in Greece, pay 40 percent of total corporate income tax in the country, official data show.

Also, the 3,790 biggest employers in the country employ over 780,000 people - more than 44 percent of the total number of private employees in Greece.

The only certainty is tax hikes

The additional income tax burden amounting to 1.8 billion euros or 1 percent of gross domestic product is the only tax measure certain to be enforced in the coming years. The promises of easing the burden on the middle class will only be activated if the government manages to exceed the target for a primary budget surplus of 3.5 percent of GDP.

Greeks declared 7 billion more in taxes in 2016

Greek households paid an additional 6.1 billion euros in taxes for the current fiscal year compared 2015, according to the data posted on the website of the Independent Public Revenues Authorities. The data showed that the aggregate tax income declared by Greeks in 2016 amounted to 82.1 billion euros, in comparison to 75.1 billion in 2015 after the calculation of th set of presumptions.
