China has shut down or revoked the licenses of 13,000 websites since 2015 for violating the country’s internet rules, state media reported on Dec. 24.
The Authorities in China Completely Blocked WhatsApp
WhatsApp is now completely Blocked in China, reports BloombergTV.
Until recently, only image and other file upload features have been blocked, but authorities have for the time being banned the use of the app.
From 1 January 2018, a new cyber security law will be enacted in the country that will further restrict Chinese Internet users.
China passes controversial cybersecurity law
China on Nov. 7 passed a controversial cybersecurity bill tightening restrictions on online freedom of speech and imposing new rules on online service providers, raising concerns it is further cloistering its heavily controlled internet.
