Floor coverings found in church at Ayasuluk Hill

Archaeological excavations at Ayasuluk Hill, the first settlement of Ephesus in the Selçuk district of İzmir, have unearthed two different floor coverings from earlier periods on the southern cross arm of the St. Jean Church.

A large number of graves have also been discovered during the excavations around the church.

23 people rescued and their trafficker arrested after a chase in Samos

Yesterday the Samos Coastal Authority detected a suspicious speedboat coming from the Turkish coast and heading towards the south-eastern coast of Samos. Immediately, a patrol boat went to the area, which spotted the speedboat and instructed its operator to stop, but he did not comply with the coast guard’s orders, resulting in a chase and immobilization.

Excavations unearth third major gate of ancient Ephesus city

Archaeologists have unearthed the Koressos gate, one of the three main entrances to the ancient city of Ephesus, once a bustling trade and tourism site.

The find marks a major milestone in the excavation efforts within the ancient site, which lies within the borders of the western city of İzmir.

Scattered outbreaks in Kos and Chios – Battle with the flames in Geraki Kastelli in Heraklion

Firefighters were on standby all night in Kos, Chios and Heraklion Crete to contain fire fronts. As known by the fire brigade, the fires in Kos and Chios are showing a better picture with the fire brigades however facing several scattered outbreaks.

Wildfire breaks out in western Chios, settlement evacuated

A small hamlet on the western coast of the island of Chios, in the eastern Aegean, had to be evacuated on Monday after a blaze broke out.

The Fire Service said the wildfire was burning forestland in the area of Sidiroundas. 

A warning message from the 112 emergency number was sent to residents telling them to move from the area of Metohi towards the beach with the same name.
