A Life of Loss | Hydra | August 3-31
Greek artist George Lalas presents a special project of 30 artworks created within 168 hours at the Historical Archive - Museum of Hydra (Mandrakiou-Molou, tel 2298.052.355). The artist describes his work as an exploration of loss and grief that transforms into celebration through color and form. The exhibition opens on August 3 at 8.30 p.m. Admission is free.

Dream Machines | Hydra | To October 30
Investigating the repercussions of technology on the human imagination, "Dream Machines" is a group exhibition at the Hydra branch of the DESTE Foundation for Contemporary Art (deste.gr). Curated by Daniel Birnbaum and Massimiliano Gioni, over 30 artists are participating in the show, including Jeff Koons. The gallery is located at the island's Old Slaughterhouse.

Basel defies forecast of art market slowdown
The Basel contemporary art fair last week defied forecasts of a market slowdown, with wealthy collectors buying works with seven or eight-figure price tags.
At its VIP day on June 13, Zurich's Hauser and Wirth gallery sold a spider by Franco-American sculptor Louise Bourgeois for $22.5 million.

Ceramic tulips on display
The exhibition, titled, 'Tulip and Woman,' displaying 440 ceramic tulips produced by 50 ceramic artists in white to pink and purple to red colors, and in classical or stylized forms, can be visited at the Istanbul Tulip Foundation through April 26.

Christie’s to auction Allen’s $1bn-plus art collection
Christie's has announced plans to auction the art collection of late Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen, which it estimated to be worth more than $1 billion.
The November sale of more than 150 pieces spanning 500 years of art will be "the largest and most exceptional art auction in history," Christie's said in a statement.

Hockney Painting Breaks Auction Record For Living Artist
A celebrated painting by British artist David Hockney has been sold at Christie's in New York for just over $90m (£70m) - an auction record for a work by a living artist, reported BBC.
Portrait of an Artist (Pool with Two Figures) had been forecast to fetch $80m.
It sold following a 10-minute battle between two rival bidders via telephone, after the price passed $70m.
