Excavations in Black Sea’s Zeugma to continue all year round
Excavation works in the ancient city of Hadrianapolis, in the Black Sea province of Karabük, will continue throughout 2020, the Karabük governor has said.
Ancient slab unearthed in Karabük
An ancient slab dating back around 1,800 years was unearthed in Turkey's northern Karabük province.
The limestone slab that had a silhouette of a woman on it was found during excavation works in the ancient city of Hadrianopolis - now located 3 kilometers east of the Eskipazar district of the Karabük province.

Saffron, the world's most expensive spice, has been attracting local and foreign tourists to the town of Safranbolu located in the Black Sea province of Karabük.
Turkey's Safranbolu draws record number of tourists
Safranbolu district of Karabük, which is on the UNESCO World Heritage List and is known as the "capital of protection," broke a record last year by hosting a total of 1.27 million visitors.

Birdhouses in the likeness of the district's historic houses have been made in Karabük's Safranbolu district. The district had made cat houses and now they have made birdhouses to protect birds from bad weather conditions, Safranbolu District Governor Fatih Ürkmezer has said.

Some 450,000 people visited the famous opaque glass terrace jutting out over the İncekaya Canyon in the historic town of Safranbolu in the Black Sea province of Karabük in the first 11 months of this year, state-run Anadolu Agency reported on Dec. 13.

Nearly 15,000 Syrians receiving education in Turkish universities
Nearly 15,000 Syrians are enrolled in Turkish universities as of the 2016-2017 academic year, Higher Education Board (YÖK) head Yekta Saraç has said.
One thirds of Syrian university students are women and the rest are men, while 3,473 Syrian students in the country are receiving education as a part of the special "Turkey Scholarship" program, Saraç added.
Safranbolu's fate shaped by UNESCO inclusion
The Black Sea province of Karabük's Safranbolu district, which is famous for its well-preserved historical structures such as Ottoman-era wood houses, mosques, inns, baths, fountains, tombs and guilds, entered the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1994. Since then, the district has welcomed 3 million tourists in 22 years.
