Over 3,000 people applied for adoption of animals kept in poor conditions

More than 3,000 people have applied for the adoption of 77 dogs and six cats that were seized on the grounds that they were kept in poor conditions for commercial purposes in Ankara's Keçiören district.

The animals whose vocal cords were removed to prevent them from making noise and were kept in poor conditions in cages have been sent to Keçiören Municipality Animal Shelter.

Turkish police tracing Russian envoy killer's movements on Internet

The assassin of Russian Ambassador to Turkey Andrey Karlov, Mevlüt Mert Altıntaş, repeatedly studied his target's photo on the Internet, according to the police investigation into the Dec. 19 killing. 

Altıntaş, who killed Karlov during a photo exhibition in Ankara's Center of Modern Art, looked at the pictures from his housemate's computer, daily Habertürk reported on Jan. 3.  

Ankara's commerce chamber elects new head

Gürsel Baran has been elected as the new chairman of the Ankara Chamber of Commerce (ATO) on Dec. 3. 

In an election at ATO on Dec. 3, the parliamentary of the organization elected Baran as their new head. 

Baran won the election with 100 votes over Osman Gökçek, the son of Ankara Mayor Melih Gökçek, who received 86 votes.

Municipality names site of Ankara bombings 'Democracy Square'

The Ankara Metropolitan Municipality has named the crossroads at the heart of the capital city where nearly 100 people lost their lives in a suicide bombing attack ?Democracy Square.?

At a municipal council meeting held late on Oct. 15, the mayor?s office proposed nam?ng the square near Ankara?s main railway station where at least 99 people were killed on Oct. 10 ?Democracy Square.?
