Gaza's civil defense agency reported Tuesday that an Israeli strike on a humanitarian zone in the south of the Palestinian territory resulted in the deaths of 40 people and injuries to 60 others. 

Israel has agreed to resume Gaza ceasefire talks next week at the request of international mediators as Palestinians on Aug. 9  tried to escape a new Israeli military operation in Gaza's main southern area.

In a targeted operation, the Israel Defense Forces' (IDF) Givati Infantry Brigade conducted a raid on the central headquarters of Hamas's terror brigade in Khan Yunis, Gaza. The facility, located in the Al-Qadsia outpost, served as a key hub for training terrorists involved in the October 7 attack and also housed the office of Hamas leader Mohammad Sinwar, brother of Yahya Sinwar.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) revealed the withdrawal of the 55th Brigade from Gaza on Thursday after successfully dismantling 70 tunnel shafts in the past two months. The IDF is undergoing a strategic shuffle in the Strip, with the deployment of other forces. This reorganization will leave five combat brigades in Khan Yunis, down from the previous seven.

Deadly fighting and bombardment rocked Gaza on Tuesday as international mediators pushed for a new ceasefire and hostage release deal in the Israel-Hamas war.

Heavy Israeli strikes and urban combat across the besieged Gaza Strip killed 128 more people overnight, the health ministry in the Hamas-run Palestinian territory said.

Concern grew on Friday for civilians trapped by fighting around Khan Yunis in Gaza's south, with the top U.N. court set to rule in a case against Israel over alleged genocidal acts in its campaign against Hamas.

Israeli air strikes and ground operations were focused Thursday on the Gazan city of Khan Yunis, where the U.N. said nine people were killed by tank shelling at one of its shelters the day before.

The deadly incident came after the Israeli army said it had encircled the city, where footage released by the military showed soldiers engaged in urban combat amid ruined buildings.

Israel kept up its heavy assault on the "encircled" Gazan city of Khan Yunis following an outpouring of grief over the army's deadliest single day since ground operations in the territory began.
