Kidnapping and murder of Israeli teenagers

Ever since Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu took over, both he and his coalition partners as well as the country itself have come under unprecedented and vicious attacks, with accusations of radicalism, right-wing extremism and apartheid being thrown their way without any evidence and without any due process, let alone facts.

Tension is growing in most Israeli jails following punitive measures announced by the Israeli authorities against Palestinian detainees, a Palestinian prisoners' NGO said on Sept. 8.

Israel's new measures were announced in response to the escape of six Palestinians from the heavily guarded Gilboa prison in northern Israel.

Saleh al-Arouri, deputy leader of Palestinian resistance movement Hamas, returned to Gaza on Aug. 3 after eight years of exile.

Israeli forces shot dead at least two Palestinians when clashes erupted during an operation Nov. 16 to destroy the West Bank home of a Palestinian accused of killing an Israeli hiker, the army said.

Palestinian hospital sources reported the death of two Palestinians, while the Israeli military said three were shot in an exchange of fire at Qalandiya.    

Israeli troops arrested one of the top West Bank leaders of Islamist group Hamas in an overnight raid near Ramallah, the army said on Oct. 20. 

Israel bristled Oct. 15 at U.S. suggestions it may have used excessive force to confront Palestinian stabbings, and also published hospital images it said refuted Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas?s allegation a teen suspect had been ?executed.? 

Five Palestinians and an Israeli border policeman were wounded in a raid in the occupied West Bank to arrest a Hamas militant, the Israeli army and local medical officials said on Sept 1. 

The fate of the wanted man was not immediately clear. The army said soldiers demolished a house, in the city of Jenin, in which he was suspected of hiding, after they were shot at. 

A senior Hamas leader claimed to be residing in Turkey is not in the country, Turkish officials said on Aug. 12, putting a partial end to months of controversy.
