The Number of Organ Donors in Bulgaria is Increasing
The number of Bulgarians who agree to donate their organs is increasing. That was announced by the director of the Executive Agency for Transplantation Dr. Mariana Simeonova at the Bulgarian National Radio.
Until now, for 2017, a total of 80% of the families of people in brain death have agreed that the organs of their relatives should be used to save others.
Heart transplant for 10-month-old 'could have been conducted in Turkey'
A top surgeon has refuted claims from the family of a 10-month-old baby that heart transplant surgery is not conducted on young babies in Turkey.
Turkish Cardiovascular Surgery Foundation Prof. Rüçhan Akar's comments came on July 5 after a family initiated a fundraising campaign that raised 1.1 million euros for their baby to undergo crucial heart transplant surgery in Germany.
30,000 patients waiting for organ transplants in Turkey
Some 30,000 patients are currently waiting for organ transplants in Turkey, with approximately 2,000 of them losing their lives each year in the process, according to statistics released from the World Health Organization (WHO).
A total of 4,552 organ transplants were made in 2015 in Turkey, the statistics also showed.

Turkey 'top destination for hair transplant surgery'
Turkey ranks the world's first for the number of hair transplant operations carried out, amid rapidly rising demand from Arab citizens from Gulf countries.
A senior official from the Health Ministry, Ömer Tontu?, said over 200 hair transplant operations were carried out daily in Turkey, mainly on foreign patients.

German Transplant Patient to Receive Liver from Bulgarian Donor
A liver from a Bulgarian donor has been transported to Germany as part of the cooperation with the organization for organ exchange Eurotransplant.
The organ was transported to Germany due to the lack of appropriate recipients on Bulgaria's national transplant waiting list, according to the press office of the Health Ministry.
Over 28,000 patients waiting for organ transplants in Turkey
Around 28,500 patients are currently waiting for organ transplants in Turkey, according to data from the Health Ministry.
Some 21,629 of these patients are waiting for a kidney transplant, with 4,268 having applied for the operation since the beginning of this year.
Some 58,195 patients have been receiving dialysis treatment in one of Turkeyâs 853 dialysis centers.
