Kravica massacre

The Kravica warehouse was one of the most notorious killing sites during the genocide of Bosniaks by Bosnian Serb forces following the fall of the town of Srebrenica on July 11.

On July 13 and 14, 1995 Bosnian Serb forces killed 1,313 Bosniak men in the warehouse in the village of Kravica after they were captured following the fall of Srebrenica.

Vinko Pandurevic, wartime commander of the Bosnian Serb Army's Zvornik Brigade, told Belgrade Higher Court on Monday that Milenko Zivanovic, who commanded the Bosnian Serb Army's Drina Corps, did not run the Krivaja 95 operation in July 1995 which ended in the massacres of thousands of Bosniaks from Srebrenica.

"The aforementioned buses must head towards the sports stadium in Bratunac on July 12, 1995, by 4.30 pm at the latest," it added.

The order was signed by Milenko Zivanovic, a general who at the time was the commander of the Bosnian Serb Army's Drina Corps.

Tomislav Kovac, who was deputy interior minister in the Serb-dominated Republika Srpska entity in July 1995, when the Kravica massacre happened, told Belgrade Higher Court on Tuesday that Ljubisa Beara, who at the time was the security chief of the Main Headquarters of the Bosnian Serb Army, was to blame for the killings.

A former Bosnian Serb soldier told a Belgrade court that he was never in a warehouse in the Bosnian village of Kravica where some 1,300 men from Srebrenica were shot dead in July 1995.

The 23rd anniversary of the murder of Serb civilians in Kravica near Bratunac in eastern Bosnia was marked on Tuesday.

A church service for all 158 victims from this town and the nearby villages was also served today, while candles were lit at a memorial site in Kravice.

Bosniak politicians said Russia’s decision to veto a UN Security Council resolution condemning the Srebrenica massacres as genocide was an insult to the thousands who were killed.
