Kumanovo clashes

Around forty armed men stormed a police department in the Macedonian village of Gosince near the border with Kosovo on Tuesday, taking four police officers hostages.

The attack occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, when the armed men, who spoke Albanian, stormed the building of the department and disarmed the four police officers, who were on duty.

Macedonian Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski - answering a parliamentary question on Thursday - said the material that the opposition Social Democrats had published, pointing to widespread corruption among government ministers, had been obtained from foreign intelligence services in order to discredit the government and seize power.
 

"Macedonia supports Serbia's OSCE chairmanship"

SKOPJE -- Macedonia fully supports Serbia's Chairmanship of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe, Macedonian President Gjorge Ivanov said Wednesday.

Opposition leader charged with conspiring to organize coup

SKOPJE -- The U.S. embassy in Skopje has said that it was following the criminal proceedings against Zoran Zaev "with concern."

Zaev, leader of the Social Democrats, was charged by police on Saturday with conspiring with a foreign intelligence service to topple the government.

Turkey, Macedonia co-operate to fight terrorism

Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu was set to leave for the Macedonian capital of Skopje on Dec. 22, for a visit aimed at boosting bilateral relations with the Balkan country, as well as reiterating support for ethnic Turkish communities there.
