Why I am calling for an early election

Government officials are surprised and angered by the opposition's call for a fresh vote mere months after their election triumph. The conservatives' arrogance, fueled by their 41 percent victory, blinds them to the significant events of the past 10 months that have reshaped the political landscape based on which voters entrusted Kyriakos Mitsotakis with governing the country.

Greek diplomatic sources: Turkey delegation arrives for talks in Athens

A Turkish delegation is slated to attend talks on Confidence Building Measures (CBM) in Athens on April 22, followed by a meeting in Istanbul on April 26, according to diplomatic sources. Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis' visit to Turkey has yet to be scheduled but is anticipated in mid-May.

The mixer of ruthless demagoguery

"We have said that we want gun ownership for the Greek man, training for the Greek woman, for everyone," the leader of the nationalist Greek Solution party, Kyriakos Velopoulos, said in an interview with state-run broadcaster ERT, commenting on the murder of a woman by her former partner outside a police station. His party is on the rise in the latest opinion polls.

Tempe and the lost year

"At Tempe, our country collided with all that plagues it," Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said during the no-confidence motion against his government. "On that fateful night, chronic weaknesses of our state joined forces with human error. That is what I said then, this is what I say today."

What led to Thursday’s Cabinet ousters

The resignations of the minister of state, Stavros Papastavrou, and the deputy minister to the prime minister, Yiannis Bratakos, last Thursday has been attributed to their attendance at the "wrong" social event.

The event turned out to be more than just social, as four days later it led to the ouster of two of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis' closest associates.
