Explosion from small gas canisters at the entrance of an apartment building in Glyfada

An explosion occurred at the entrance of an apartment building in Glyfada early this morning, caused by small gas canisters left by unknown individuals.

The explosion happened around 2:45 AM when the canisters were placed at the entrance of the building by unidentified people.

Suspicious gift at Peristeri town hall deemed harmless after investigation

A suspicious gift received by Peristeri Mayor Andreas Pachatouridis on Wednesday was deemed harmless by authorities following an investigation.

Pachatouridis contacted the police after receiving a flower pot accompanied by an envelope containing an unidentified powder.

One more WWII bomb found at former Hellinikon airport will be defused on Friday

A new World War II bomb will be defused by authorities at the site of the former Hellenic airport.

The neutralization will take place at 8:00 a.m. the morning of Friday, August 2 and it is suspected that there will be an explosion. The bomb is large (in the order of 500 pounds, about 226 kilograms), petrified, and is located 500 yards from the nearest residences.

Old mine destroyed in controlled explosion

A World War II anti-tank mine found in the sea in southern Athens was destroyed in a controlled explosion on Thursday morning. 

The mine was found on Wednesday night by a swimmer in the area of Kavouri, at a depth of 1.5 meters.

The detonation was carried out by the Hellenic Navy's Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team after securing the area between Kavouri Avenue and Leto street.

False alarm over suitcase investigated by police bomb squad at Greek ministry

A false alarm was raised on Wednesday by the police due to the discovery of a suitcase deemed suspicious outside the Digital Governance Ministry in Kallithea in south Athens.

A bomb disposal team arrived at the scene, and after the relevant inspection, it was determined that the suitcase did not contain anything alarming to the authorities.
