Wildfires blaze near Athens; flames engulf homes, cars
Two large wildfires were blazing in Attica Sunday afternoon. The earliest, south of the town of Keratea, has already burned through homes and cars, but no casualties had been reported as of 5.20 p.m. local.
Strong winds are helping spread the fires. In Keratea, the blaze, which started at around 1 p.m. is headed south and could get close to the town of Lavrio,

Information so far says that homes have been burned. So far, 52 rescues and dozens of evacuations of homes have been carried out.

Fire breaks out near Keratea, one settlement evacuated
A big wildfire broke out southeast of the Greek capital near Keratea on Saturday evening, with residents in one settlement told to move to a safer area.
The flames were burning low grassland but there were scattered houses in the area which could be threatened. More than 100 firefighters with 30 vehicles and four units on foot have been deployed, the fire service said. The
Police dismantle burglary ring in eastern Athens suburbs
Police dismantled a criminal group operating in the eastern Attica districts of Lavrio, Keratea and Koropi, responsible for numerous burglaries.
The group, including two minors, was caught Monday afternoon in the Legrena settlement after fleeing a burglarized home.

TAIPED announces Lavrio port authority stake sale
The Hellenic Republic Asset Development Fund (TAIPED) issued a call of interest for a majority stake sale (50%+1 share) in Lavrio Port Authority SA on Wednesday.
The authority has the exclusive right of use and development of the southeastern Attica port's sports fields, buildings and facilities through a 60-year concession it has signed with the Greek state.

Significant surge in summer passenger traffic at Greek ports in 2023
Passenger traffic at the ports of Piraeus, Rafina, and Lavrio saw a notable 8.59 percent increase compared to the previous year during this year's summer months.
Specifically, from June 1 to August 31, a total of 5,613,856 passengers were transported, surpassing the 5,169,646 passengers transported during the same period in 2022.
