In a visit underscoring Greece's deepening interest in the Middle East, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis became the first EU leader to travel to Lebanon on Monday following the recent ceasefire in the country's south.

Kyriakos Mitsotakis visited Beirut on Monday and met with Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati.

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis is visiting Lebanon, marking the first visit by a European leader since the recent ceasefire between Israel and Lebanese Hezbollah, as well as developments in Syria. The visit underscores Greece's intention to strengthen diplomatic relations in the Middle East and send a message in support of stability and peace.

Several Lebanese ministers on Oct. 25 accused Israel of committing war crimes by targeting journalists, hospitals and rescue workers amid the U.S. push to reach a diplomatic solution in Lebanon.

The first accusation came from Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati after Israel carried out a strike in the country's south and killed three media workers.

The Lebanese caretaker prime minister and the Cypriot president are calling on the European Union to provide financial support to help cash-strapped Lebanon stop migrants from reaching European shores.

Lebanon will construct a $122 million terminal at Beirut's Rafik Hariri International Airport to be operated by a leading Irish airport company when it's completed in four years, officials said on March 20.

Turkey welcomed on Sept. 11 an agreement on formation of a new Cabinet in Lebanon, ending a deadlock that lasted for over a year.

"We are very pleased that an agreement has been reached on the formation of a new Cabinet in Lebanon under the leadership of Prime Minister-designate Najib Mikati," the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
