The governments of America, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Britain issued a joint statement on August 16 condemning "barbaric" acts carried out by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant  (ISIL) in Libya.

Libya's internationally recognized government appealed to Arab countries to carry out airstrikes against the local Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) affiliate which is expanding its hold on the coastal city of Sirte.

One police officer and two assailants have been killed following a car bomb attack against a police station in Istanbul's Sultanbeyli district, broadcaster CNNTürk reported. 

The car bomb, which exploded at around 1 a.m. on Aug. 10, wounded seven civilians, two policemen and a deputy police chief, according to a statement by the Istanbul Police Department. 

The United States and Egypt are returning to a ?stronger base? in their relationship despite tensions and concerns over human rights, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said on Aug. 2 at the first strategic dialogue between the two sides since 2009. 

A Libyan court on July 28 sentenced slain dictator Moamar Kadhafi's son Seif al-Islam and eight other defendants to death for crimes during the 2011 uprising.

Saif al-Islam, a son of Libya's slain leader Col Muammar Gaddafi, has been sentenced to death over war crimes a Libyan court believes he committed during the 2011 uprising.

Eight other senior members of Gaddafi's regime have also been sentenced including former intelligence chief Abdullah Senussi.

Saif al-Islam's death sentence will be performed by a firing squad.

Tunisian authorities have arrested 12 people they suspect are linked to the Sousse beach hotel attack on foreign tourists, and are hunting for two men who trained in a Libyan jihadist camp with the Sousse attacker, an official said. 

EU foreign ministers formally approved June 21, the launch of the first phase of a military operation against people smugglers in the Mediterranean, officials said.

Turkey's Tekfen Holding has stated that its construction unit, Tekfen ?n?aat, has opened a case at the International Court of Arbitration of The International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) against the Libyan Man-Made River Authority (MMRA) and the state of Libya, over its losses in the country since 2011.
