Israel's parliament on June 10 elected Reuven Rivlin, a far-right member of the ruling Likud party, to be the nation's 10th president when Shimon Peres steps down next month.

The Israeli Knesset has elected former Parliament Speaker and conservative Likud lawmaker Reuven Rivlin as next President.

Rivlin will take in July the largely ceremonial office from Shimon Peres, 90, who ends his seven-year term.
