Prominent criminal lawyer Apostolos Lytras handed himself in to Pallini Police Department on Wednesday after an arrest warrant was issued by judicial authorities. The warrant followed the lifting of previously imposed restraining orders after Lytras' violent assault on his wife, Sofia Polyzogopoulou.

The ex-wife of a criminal lawyer accused of assaulting his current wife, Sofia Polyzogopoulou, has been prosecuted for disturbing domestic peace and issuing threats. She will testify before a prosecutor on June 27. 

Authorities are seeking to arrest criminal lawyer Apostolos Lytras, 52, following a lawsuit filed by his wife, Sofia Polyzogopoulou, on Wednesday.

Lytras was charged with domestic abuse against Polyzogopoulou on Monday and was later released pending trial with restraining orders.

The Supreme Court prosecutor's decision to order a preliminary disciplinary investigation into the decision by judicial officials to release criminal lawyer Apostolos Lytras pending his trial for assaulting his wife triggered reactions from the Athens Bar Association and the Association of Judges and Prosecutors of Greece.

Supreme Court prosecutor Georgia Adilini requested on Tuesday the investigative magistrate Christina Salapa to conduct a swift investigation into the domestic abuse case involving prominent Athens lawyer Apostolos Lytras. 

In her request, Adilini referred to the serious nature of the alleged crime and the increased danger for the victim to suffer additional abuse.
