Mass sexual assault

Two men, aged 17 and 20, were hospitalized on Wednesday morning after being attacked in the western Athens suburb of Peristeri by about 15 people in black clothes, in what was reported as a sports-related incident. 

The attack occurred shortly before 2 a.m., on Athinogenous Street. 

Reports of mass sexual assaults on women in Frankfurt on New Year's Eve allegedly committed by dozens of drunken refugees, and which initially appeared in Germany's Bild newspaper, were made up and are "completely baseless," police said.

A Turkish exchange student was reportedly raped by three Afghan refugees in a train station in the Austrian capital Vienna on April 22, according to the Austrian press. 

Germany will make it easier to deport criminal foreigners following public outrage over the New Year's Eve assaults in Cologne, officials said on Jan. 12.

"With this proposal we are significantly lowering the hurdles for the possible expulsion of foreigners who have committed crimes in Germany," Interior Minister Thomas de Maiziere told reporters in Berlin.

An official report confirmed that migrants were involved in the assaults targeting women, which occurred on New Year's Eve in the German city of Cologne.

According to the report, which was presented by the interior minister of the state of Rhine-Westphalia on Monday, the majority of the suspects were of migrant origin, being mainly North African and Arab.

A group of Pakistanis and a Syrian were violently attacked by about 20 unknown assailants late on Jan. 10 in the German city of Cologne, police said.

Cologne police have said that the number of women claiming that they were assaulted on New Year’s Eve has risen to 379 with half of the cases reported involving crimes of a sexual nature.

Police said on Saturday that the number of cases reported to them had reached 379 and about 40 % of which involved allegations of sexual offences.

Thirty-one suspects, including 18 asylum seekers, are under investigation for offences including assault and theft in Cologne on New Year's Eve with the perpetrators of sexual assaults yet to be identified, Germany's interior ministry said Jan. 8.

Ferocious talks emerged in Germany and other European countries over the sexual assaults against women occurred by men of Arab or North African origin on New Year Eve’s  in five German cities and other cities in Europe.

German people demand explanations from German authorities about the handling of the attacks and ask them to reveal the identity of the perpetrators.

Finnish police have revealed an unusually high level of sexual harassment in Helsinki on New Year's Eve and said they had been tipped off about plans by groups of asylum seekers to sexually harass women, AFP has reported.
