Aid groups press to stop Sudan 'man-made' famine as 755,000 projected to starve

Aid groups are warning that Sudan's "man-made famine" could be even worse than feared, with the most catastrophic death toll the world has seen in decades, without more global pressure on warring generals.

A U.N.-backed study said Thursday that 755,000 people are on the brink of starvation in Sudan, a death toll not seen since the 1980s when famine in Ethiopia shocked the world.

France hosts Sudan conference a year into 'forgotten' war

France is hosting an international conference on Sudan on Monday, exactly a year after war broke out in the northeast African country, leading to a humanitarian and political crisis.

Sudan's silent suffering, one year into generals' war

Sudan is experiencing "one of the worst humanitarian disasters in recent memory" and "the largest internal displacement crisis in the world", the United Nations says.

It is also on track to become "the world's worst hunger crisis".

Aid workers have called it the "forgotten war" affecting a country of 48 million — more than half of whom they say need humanitarian assistance.

The world has been warned: Next year...

The report states that the number of people in need of humanitarian aid this year has risen to 300 million, that the number of forcibly displaced people has increased to 110 million and that 20 African countries are facing the worst crisis, according to Reuters.
Sudan tops the IRC's humanitarian situation list, followed by the Palestinian territories and South Sudan.
