Weekend storms coming

The weather will steadily deteriorate from late Saturday afternoon until Sunday evening, according to an emergency advisory issued by the National Meteorological Service (EMY).

Heavy showers and thunderstorms, as well as strong gusts, will be the primary elements of the weather shift.

Temperatures to drop, rain and winds expected over the weekend

A low pressure system from the northwest accompanied by a cold front will bring adverse weather conditions over the weekend, with gale force winds throughout the country accompanied by heavy rain and storms in the northern and eastern parts of the country.

The National Meteorological Service (EMY) said temperatures in the north will drop by 6 to 8 degrees Celsius.

Thunderstorms on their way

The unprecedented summer weather conditions that prevailed until Wednesday throughout Greece gave way to heavy rain, which flooded streets of the western port city of Patra, on Thursday. Serious problems were also caused both on the old national road and the new Patra-Corinth highway, where landslides occurred.

Today, over the northwestern regions, the cloudiness will temporarily break and decrease, and over the rest it will be more often significant. In many places in Southern and Eastern Bulgaria, there will be short-term rainfall and thunderstorms. In some places, mainly in the Rhodopes and the southeastern regions, the phenomena will be intense and there will be conditions for hail.

There have been many areas of rain and thunderstorms over the past 24 hours. And in the afternoon there will be showers and thunderstorms, mainly in the mountainous and eastern regions. A weak to moderate north-westerly wind will blow, along the Black Sea - a south-easterly wind. Maximum temperatures will be between 27°C and 32°C.
