Meteorological balloons play a crucial role in weather forecasting in Türkiye, where they are released into the atmosphere at nine different locations across the country with domestically produced devices.

Globally, nearly a thousand such points exist where these balloons are launched.

Across Greece, scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected on Sunday, particularly in central and southern mainland areas and the Aegean.

Temperatures will peak at 32-33 degrees Celsius in the central and northern regions and 29-31 degrees elsewhere. 

Bad weather continues for another day in Greece as according to the EMY forecast, today Sunday (1/9) localized heavy showers and thunderstorms in Sporades, Evia, Peloponnese, and Crete.

Showers and thunderstorms are expected today, Saturday, August 31, the third day of weather instability enhanced by the presence of a cold lake, the center of which is now located in the northeastern parts of our country.

Severe weather instability is expected to continue across much of the country on Saturday, August 31st. The National Weather Service has updated the Special Weather Circular, initially issued on August 29th, 2024, at noon.

The weather in Bulgaria is expected to change significantly, with the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (NIMH) issuing a yellow code warning for heavy rainfall and thunderstorms on August 28. Citizens are advised to prepare for potentially severe weather conditions.

With temperatures reaching 39 degrees Celsius, the weekend, with the risk of wildfires increasing in several areas. Any showers that do occur will be isolated and limited to mountainous areas.

The next week is expected to begin with significant instability, featuring scattered showers or thunderstorms, mainly in the afternoon and evening over the mainland, according to the director of the National Meteorological Service (EMY), Thodoris Kolydas.

 After a long period, the very high temperatures are subsiding and we are back to slightly above normal for the season, says the director of the National Weather Service, Thodoros Kolydas.

On Thursday, sunny skies are expected, with cumulus clouds forming in the afternoon. These clouds will be more prominent over the mountainous regions of Western and Central Bulgaria, where short-term rainfall and thunderstorms are anticipated.
