Capital's closed stores started to show signs of revival

Fewer commercial stores shut down in the center of Athens and other popular shopping districts around the city in 2014 than in 2013, but about three in every 10 remain without a tenant, while this rate is even higher in certain central streets.
Olympiakos fan club in Monastiraki targeted by attackers
Seven people were detained in central Athens early Saturday after an attack on an Olympiakos supporters club in Monastiraki.
The windows at the club were smashed in the raid but nobody was injured.

Australian tourist injured in Maziotis shootout sues Greek state
A 19-year-old Australian tourist who was injured during a shootout between police and fugitive terrorist Nikos Maziotis in central Athens in July is suing the Greek state for failing to provide him with proper medical treatment.
Jailed terrorist was preparing bomb, police say
Nikos Maziotis, the leader of the Revolutionary Struggle urban guerrilla group who was arrested earlier this year, was planning another bomb attack when officers seized him after shots were fired in the busy Monastiraki area of Athens, police sources have told Kathimerini.

Monastiraki Square hit by arbitrary interventions

As architect Nikos Kazeros was walking through Monastiraki Square in central Athens recently, he noticed a group of workers repositioning the colored tiles that pave the western side of the square. In what order are you repositioning the tiles? he asked. It's all random, the men replied. Their answer came as no surprise.
