Italy’s Ambassador to Congo and Two of UN Convoy Killed in Attempted Kidnap
Italy's ambassador to the Democratic Republic of Congo and two other people were killed on Monday in an attack on a United Nations convoy in eastern Congo, Italy's foreign ministry and park authorities said.
Italian ambassador killed in Congo while in UN convoy
The Italian ambassador to Congo and an Italian carabinieri police officer were killed on Feb. 22 while traveling in Congo in a U.N. convoy, the Foreign Ministry said.
In a brief statement, the ministry said Luca Attanasio and the officer were killed in Goma, the eastern regional capital. They were traveling in a convoy of the U.N. stabilization mission in Congo.
Eight UN Peacekeepers Killed in Eastern DR Congo
Eight United Nations peacekeepers were killed in an operation against a rebel militia in eastern DR Congo, the UN Security Council said on Thursday, reports AFP.
One Tanzanian and seven Malawian peacekeepers were killed, the council said, raising the toll from an earlier count.

Serbian peacekeepers in DR Congo safe - MoD
BELGRADE - All eight Serbian Armed Forces troops serving in the MONUSCO peacekeeping mission in DR Congo are safe and performing their duties normally, the Serbian Ministry of Defence said in the wake of Friday's attack on the UN mission, in which at least 14 peacekeepers were killed and another 53 wounded.
