Rescuers find climber who fell down Mt Olympus ravine

A 58-year-old mountain climber who went missing on Thursday off the slopes of Mount Olympus was found on Friday near the village of Kalipefki, in the prefecture of Larissa, by rescue workers.

The 58-year-old, who had been with three other climbers when he disappeared, fell into a ravine some 500 meters deep, sources said.

Mountain Climber Falls to Death in Bulgaria's Vratsata Gorge

A 56-year-old climber has died after falling from a rock in Bulgaria's Vratsata Gorge in the Balkan Mountains Sunday night, the press office of the Interior Ministry informs.

The man with the initials I.M. was a resident of Sofia. He went climbing without having a labeled, marked and secured route.

Two climbers and their guide have fallen 800 meters to their death in the Mont Blanc range, police said on Monday, the latest in a series of tragedies on Europe's highest mountain.
      
"The fall of 800 meters gave them no chance," police said, adding they probably fell off a ridge that climbers must take to return to a nearby refuge hut.
      

First Bulgarian Climber Conquers K2

Boyan Petrov has become the first Bulgarian national to conquer the world’s second highest peak, K2, Dnevnik daily has reported.

According to information posted on the specialized website climbingguidebg.com and quoted by Dnevnik, Petrov climbed K2 on Thursday, on the 60th anniversary of K2’s first ascent and shortly before his Polish teammate Janusz Golab.

Climber dies in Mount Olympus fall

Police say a 59-year-old Greek man has died in an accident while climbing Mount Olympus, Greece's highest mountain.

The man was close to the 2,917-meter (9,570-feet) summit, when he slipped and dropped more than 200 meters (660 feet) into a ravine.

Authorities said there was intermittent fog high up the mountain.
