Mountaineering: 11-year old Dor Geta Popescu summits Iran's highest peaks

Dor Geta Popescu, the 11-year old climber who trains under the banner of the 'Altitude' Mountain Sports Club, succeeded in scaling 4,811m high Mount Sabalan, Iran's second-tallest volcano, shows a release to AGERPRES.

Just five days after having summited the Damavand (5,671 m), the highest volcano in Asia, Dor Geta Popescu succeeded to set a new record in her age category, the cited source says.

The departure from the upper camp set at the altitude 3,500 m was at 6:00 in the morning and after a climb of 4 hours and 50 minutes, Altitude Expeditions Team, the 'Tall Mountains' Division of the Altitude Club, reached the highest point of the 4,811m high Sabalan.

Dor Geta Popescu is registered with the Romanian Mountaineering and Climbing Federation and in August 2013, at age 10, she set a world record in her age group, conquering Mount Ararat — 5,137 m. Just like her famed sister, climber Crina Coco Popescu, Geta does her training, testing and decision-making for daring mountaineering expeditions in the 'Seven peaks in the Carpathians Garden' circuit; Geta successfully completed this winter trail circuit in 2013 and 2014, and completed the 7-peak circuit in 7 consecutive days.
