More than 70 events at Imago Sloveniae

The summer season in Ljubljana will feature around 70 concerts by performers from 24 countries as part of two summer festivals running from 15 June to 22 September, the 35th Imago Sloveniae festival of classical music and the Nights in Old Ljubljana Town.

Imago Sloveniae opens with a concert of the Symphony Orchestra of the SNG Maribor theatre in Congress Square.

A tonne of waste was removed from the Ljubljanica on Earth Day but the divers exploring the riverbed find the situation is improving as the pile of rubbish pulled out of the river is getting smaller by the year.

The weather was good and the water clear for the annual clean-up campaign, Miro Potočnik, head of the Vivera underwater activities association, told the STA.

Vintgar Gorge caps visitor numbers

Vintgar Gorge, a popular sight near the alpine resort of Bled, has become the first Slovenian natural beauty spot to get a formal visitor capacity limit as more are likely to follow suit.

The gorge has been open to visitors for 130 years and is one of the most popular sights in the country. But increasing visitor numbers pose an increasing challenge, prompting adjustment measures.

Fresh copy of first Slovenian silent feature-length film premiering in Ljubljana

Ljubljana, 18 October – A digital remastered copy of the first Slovenian silent feature-length film V Kraljestvu Zlatoroga (In the Realm of the Goldhorn) will premiere in Ljubljana’s Cankarjev Dom arts centre this evening. A quartet led by pianist Andrej Goričar, who wrote a new score for the film in 2005, will accompany the screening.

Kolpa river in flood, others swollen

Ljubljana – The water levels of rivers have increased overnight due to heavy rain, and the Kolpa river is flooding. Some other rivers, including the Ljubljanica and Krka, are likely to run over their banks as well. Most river levels will start to recede in the afternoon and will continue to do so in the coming days, the Environment Agency (ARSO) said.

One dead, three wounded in shooting near Novo Mesto

Novo Mesto – One person died and three were wounded in a shooting near Brezje, an informal Roma settlement in Novo Mesto area, on Saturday night. The suspect was arrested this morning, Novo Mesto police said.

The suspect, a 25-year-old man, appears to have shot dead a 22-year-old man from Novo Mesto along the main road between Mirna Peč and Novo Mesto.
