A man thought to be a foreign national living in Istanbul's Şişli district has attacked a Ramadan drummer with a knife and "stabbed the drum" after a short chase.

Lute makes comeback on Iran music scene
The Oriental lute is making a comeback in Iran after decades in the shadows as musicians reconnect with an instrument integral to Arab and Turkish musical tradition.
Known as the oud in Arabic, it is commonly called the barbat in Persian, although some would argue the instruments differ slightly.

Over 3,000 drummers keep Ramadan tradition alive in Istanbul
In Turkey's metropolitan province of Istanbul, drummers dressed in Ottoman-style attires have been keeping the age-old tradition of Ramadan alive for centuries of beating their drums in the wee hours of the morning to wake residents for their "sahur" meal, the first meal of the day eaten before observing the fast.

Young Turkish flutist wins British Flute Society award
Young Turkish flutist Ece Selin Yüksel has received the "Best Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic Composer Performance Special Award" from the British Flute Society.
She won the award with her instructor Hakan Halit Turgay's composition, which he dedicated to her.

A young autistic Turkish young man with a talent for "absolute pitch" can play 10 instruments at a professional level.
Murat Yurtçu, 23, was diagnosed with autism at the age of four when his family took him to a health facility because his speaking and physical abilities were different than his peers.

Ahmet Eden, an 80-year-old villager living in the foothills of the Amanos Mountains in the southern province of Hatay, has been carving pieces of wood into beautiful works of art, shaping them as spoons to use them as gifts.
He first took an interest in handicraft at the age of 16 when his uncle noticed his talent.
