BELGRADE - Criminal charges have been filed against more than 100 members of the Gendarmerie, security checks of nearly all members of the 2,000-strong elite unit have revealed, Blic reported on Monday.

Commander of Niš Gendarmerie detachment dismissed

BELGRADE -- Commander of the Niš Gendarmerie detachment Nenad Kostić was dismissed and criminal charges have been filed against seven members of this police unit.

They are suspected of involvement in the recent beating of Serbian prime minister's brother Andrej Vučić, Tanjug reported

Mihajlovic: Excessive use of force cannot be permitted

BELGRADE -- Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Zorana Mihajlovic condemned any use of excessive force.

BELGRADE - Serbian Defence Minister Bratislav Gasic stated on Tuesday that the Military Police and the Military Security Agency are gathering information about the incident that occurred during the Belgrade Pride Parade on Sunday, when members of the Gendarmerie used force against Andrej Vucic, brother of Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic.

BELGRADE - The Police Union of Serbia called on Tuesday for a thorough investigation into the incident that involved members of the Gendarmerie and Andrej Vucic, not wanting to jump to conclusions as to who is to blame.

Serbia "will know how to protect people, territory"

"Serbia will know how to protect its people and territory," Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vučić stated on Sunday during a visit to the Merdare base.

Minister wants "urgent meeting" with EULEX, KFOR

BELGRADE -- Interior Minister Nebojša Stefanović says he has requested an urgent meeting with representatives of EULEX and KFOR after the killing of a Serbian policeman.

A group of farmers in the southeastern province of Mardin have blocked a highway by setting barricades on fire to protest against the consistent power cuts in the region.   

Farmers gathered at a power distribution unit on the road connecting Mardin to the city of Kızıltepe on Aug. 28, setting tires and stones on fire.

BELGRADE – Serbian Interior Minister Nebojsa Stefanovic said Thursday that a member of the Serbian Gendarmerie officer who had received wounds in the Ground Safety Zone in the night between Wednesday and Thursday succumbed to his wounds and died.
